I am selling my 1988 Gibson ES-335 Studio. These ES-335's were made between 1986 - 1991 and the black ones are rare to come by. Unlike the stock ES-335, this particular model lacks f-holes, to eliminate feedback, fingerboard binding and Gibson headstock inlay. This guitar is a genuine ES-335 however, and there is no mistaking its tone. It sounds AWESOME. I am the second owner and have owned this guitar for several years. The guitar has 57 classic + pickups installed, as well as gold hardware, the original klusons were replaced with gold grover tuners. I will include the original tuners but I do not have the original hardware. Overall this guitar is in great condition and has plenty of glossy shine left. There is a scratch and belt buckle rash on the back of the guitar, and two pin sized dings by the pickup selector switch that can be easily buffed out. I've done my best to photograph it, but the cosmetic blemishes are fairly minor. There is a tiny ding on the top side and a ding on the rear binding located near the strap lock on the back of the guitar. I have photographed both in direct sunlight, but it is really small. This guitar looks very nice and a good luthier can easily get it all out. The top is pretty clean but this guitar has been played and there is finish swirling. Included is the original Gibson hardshell case which is in great condition.
Most importantly this guitar sounds amazing. It sustains effortlessly, and plays wonderfully well. You can easily nail that BB King tone, comping Motown and Jazz chord sounds, and its great for all sorts of different muscial styles other than country. You will need a tele for that. The frets have plenty of life and the neck is straight. Right now it is trung with 13's and stays in tune. The neck has a C shape to it, and the nut width measures 1 3/4". I hate to let it go but I don't play it as much anymore. thanks for looking.
