Prior to the birth of the humbucking pickup in the mid '50s, the Les Paul came equipped with P-90s (as does the Les Paul Studio '50s Tribute). The P-90 is known for a well-balanced sound, a strong midrange, and the ability to bounce between clean and mean with varied picking intensity. To further the '50s-style vibe, the Les Paul Studio '50s Tribute is available in a quintet of vintage-appropriate worn finishes. Keeping with the feel of the Les Paul Studio, Gibson opted to omit frivolities such as a bound neck and body, but added tonal beef courtesy of Orange Drop capacitors.
