1982 GIBSON LES PAUL STUDIO W/BILLY JOE ARMSTRONG CASE
Here we have for sale a beautiful 1982 Les Paul Studio Guitar. It is all original and has its special Tim Shaw PAF Humbuckers present and accounted for. Included with the guitar is a special Billy Joe Armstrong ‘Green Day’ Case.
These 82 Studios were the first of their kind. Gibson had at this time decided to offer a no frills Les Paul Standard to its line, without body & neck binding, or large neck inlays. This allowed Gibson to make a great playing & sounding Les Paul that they could offer at a much lower price, yet its tonal characteristics would not suffer in the process. They called this model The ‘Studio’, because it was understood that good sound and playability did not require fancy frills and added plastic.
Gibson put special care in the design and build of these early Studios because they realized that there is nothing as impacting as a good first impression. These early Candy Apple Red models were intended for distribution to their Sales Reps, who intern would show them to various Store Managers in order to promote the new model. The Studio was a big hit, and to this day offers great Les Paul tone and playability at a good price. The pickups on this guitar are the infamous “Tim Shaw” PAF’s, which have been known to garner between $500 - $700 per pair in aftermarket sales.
This guitar is in excellent condition with only one chip in the lacquer at the top of the headstock & a couple of smaller ones at the body’s edge. The frets are in excellent shape as is the Ebony fretboard. The neck is beefy and toneful. The width at the nut is 1 11/16”. The hardware on this beauty is Nickel plated and it comes with its original stock Grover tuners. This is a very serious Les Paul, built for maximum tone.
