Gibson Les Paul Studio

You are bidding on a 1998 used Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway Studio with Sunburst finish. It has upgraded Spergel USA locking tuners and strap locks. We purchased from Guitar Center two years ago and it has been an outstanding guitar. It works perfectly, and although it has countless dings and scratches etc. the neck body, headstock and electronics are superb. Again, I had a lutheir check this out as he has maintained it for the past two years and it is in fine working order. Nothing to report, you can gigi with it right out of the case.

Just a reminder that it is 12 years old and if you want something that is near spotless you need to pass on this. It has been played for many years and has enough dings so that if you ding it again..you won't care. See pictures. The carved maple top and sunburst finish is very nice and looks cool on stage.

Case is the deluxe snakeskin. It is in excellent shape. All latches work fine and the combination lock works as well. We probably have 14 guitars in the house so we have decided to sell 4-5 of them... Otherwise we would still be playing it.

• Body: Arched Maple top/Mahogany back
• Neck/Profile: Mahogany and I think it may be the 1960 Slim taper but I am not sure (doesn't feel slim to me just "normal")

Gibson released a "Studio" model, which combined the 1958 all mahogany Les Paul Special with thick double cutaways (as opposed to the sharper ones on the SG) with a arched maple cap like a regular Les Paul. It was priced in the $1,200.00 range, and was a successful model. It was available in various colors. It's lighter than a standard Les Paul and has many of the same sound characteristics due to the maple cap and has good 490 series pickups.

As for the sound, it's a different guitar from it's ancestor due to the maple cap. It's a bit brighter sounding than a pure mahogany type, and there's more sustain. The 490 series humbuckers are versatile. You can get very nice chiming clean tones or a very passable jazz sound a la Kenny Burrell.

This is possible because the volume and tone pots are superb, with excellent range. The setup is simple, one volume, one tone, one switch, that's it. This is consistent throughout the whole model line up to the present, even with the premium models and it seems to work just fine.
