You are looking at a 1986 Gibson ES 335 Studio Electric guitar, with a solid central block and hollow wings. It has a beautiful cherry red finish and the body is bound with white trim. The rear of the neck and headstock are also colour matched in cherry red.The pick ups are dirty fingers, the guitar is fitted with the original stop tail and the tuner machine heads are marked Gibson Deluxe.
The essential difference between this model and the regular ES 335 is the absence writing on the truss rod cover plate on the head stock and the absence of f holes in the hollow wings.Although there is a cosmetic difference between the two models - there is very little difference between the sound they produce. The advantages of playing an ES 335 studio without f holes will be found if you are playing near your amp. The studio model can handle volume much better and rarely suffers from unexpected feedback problems. This is a life saver if you are gigging in smaller clubs, lets face it, not all of us get to parade around on stage at the O2 arena.
My experience of this guitar has taught me to use a light touch, which is very different from battering away on a Tele or Strat. I let a jazz guitarist play it once, he absolutely loved the tones he could produce on this guitar, he kept playing through a gazillion different scales and I practically had to rip the guitar from his hands to get it back. I'm a 4/4 man myself and it sound great when played loud though any valve amp from Vox AC 30 to Fender twin.
